MARKING SYSTEM​​​​​​​

The Pacific Youth Music Festival (the “Festival”) will operate on the following Grading System for all competitive solo classes:

ADJUDICATION PROCEDURE​​​

​

1. Graded Violin Classes are divided into Levels according to the Royal Conservatory of Music Syllabi.

2. Participants must select and enter within ONE Level Category (e.g., Novice, Junior, Senior). For example, if a participant chooses the Novice Category, they cannot enter pieces from the Junior or Senior Categories. However, within the selected Category, participants may enter pieces from different levels within that category.

3. Each participant will receive both written and verbal comments. Session placements will be announced at the conclusion of each session.

4. A trophy will be awarded for the highest mark in each category and level. The top mark will also be publicly announced and featured on our website.

5. The adjudicators’ decisions are final.​

​IMPORTANT INFORMATION​​​

1. Format: 

   • In-person

   • Video Submission

   • This option is available exclusively to participants who reside outside of Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley, British Columbia, Canada.

   • An "Unlisted" YouTube link must be submitted with the application form.

   • At the beginning of the video, participants must clearly state their name and the titles and composers of both pieces. This can be done by:

     • Verbally announcing the required information; OR

     • Inserting a banner at the bottom of the video; OR

     • Holding a sign with the required information.

   • The video must have been recorded within three months of the registration submission date.

   • Throughout the entire recording, the participant's face, hands, feet, and keyboard must be clearly visible.

   • A professional-quality recording is not mandatory; however, the audio must be clearly audible and have no audio enhancement. 

   • Once a video recording is submitted, no substitutions will be allowed.

2. One repertoire piece is permitted per class selection, unless otherwise specified.

3. Repertoire may only be performed once within the Festival, including in Gala Challenge Classes.

4. Memorization is mandatory, except for sonatinas and sonatas, where music may be used.

5. Time limits will be strictly enforced. Exceeding time limits will result in comments only. Performances will not be awarded marks.​

6. The festival is unable to accommodate collaborative pianist schedules due to the complexity of coordinating numerous individual schedules within the festival timeline.
